Kilifi County Launches Difu Simo Resource Center on World Mental Health Day 2024

On October 8th, 2024, in celebration of World Mental Health Day, the County Government of Kilifi officially launched the Difu Simo Resource Center, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at tackling mental health stigma and improving access to care. The launch event was presided over by Her Excellency, Deputy Governor Mrs. Florence Mbetsa Chibule, marking a significant step in the county’s commitment to mental wellness.

During the celebrations, the County Government of Kilifi and Difu Simo signed a collaborative agreement to promote mental wellness in workplaces, with a particular focus on healthcare workers. This partnership aims to create supportive environments for professionals facing mental health challenges, ensuring that those who care for others also receive the support they need.

Difu Simo, meaning “Breaking Free” in Kigiriama, has evolved from a research project into a community-based mental health resource hub, combining biomedical and traditional approaches to provide innovative, culturally sensitive support. With this new center and strategic partnership in place, Kilifi County is making bold strides toward breaking stigma, fostering mental well-being, and ensuring accessible mental health care for all.

We look forward to working with stakeholders, partners, and community members to build a healthier, more resilient Kilifi.
